Man Accused Of Stealing Oilfield Explosives Facing Federal Charges

A man charged with stealing oilfield explosives and storing them at his house is facing federal charges.

Tyler Porter is facing four counts of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of an unregistered firearm, possession of explosives and theft of explosive materials.

Less than two weeks ago, the 35-year-old was arrested after authorities found hundreds of small explosives at his house.

Federal documents state local authorities and agents from the FBI and ATF found a pistol, a rifle, hundreds of rounds of ammunitions and a “How to Make Your Own Explosives” book.

The document also says Porter was planning on selling the explosives for thousands of dollars.

Porter has a hearing scheduled for May 26 in federal court.

His Northwest Judicial District charges have been dismissed because of the new charges.
