Man Accused Of Stealing Oilfield Explosives Facing Federal Charges

A man charged with stealing oilfield explosives and storing them at his house is facing federal charges.


Tyler Porter charged with multiple federal countsTyler Porter is facing four counts of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of an unregistered firearm, possession of explosives and theft of explosive materials.

Less than two weeks ago, the 35-year-old was arrested after authorities found hundreds of small explosives at his house.

Federal documents state local authorities and agents from the FBI and ATF found a pistol, a rifle, hundreds of rounds of ammunitions and a “How to Make Your Own Explosives” book.

The document also says Porter was planning on selling the explosives for thousands of dollars.

Porter has a hearing scheduled for May 26 in federal court.

His Northwest Judicial District charges have been dismissed because of the new charges.
